McConnell Foundation Supports Parachute

Parachute is pleased to announce that the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation has selected Parachute to be a recipient of a generous grant through their Social Innovation Fund.  This fund was launched to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation in its mandate to improve the lives of Canadians and contribute to a more resilient society by supporting breakthrough ideas and approaches, game changing strategies and collaborations, and continuous innovation.

In the category of Early Stage Consolidation, Parachute was selected as an organization that has proven or promising early stage innovations which is consistent with the approach that formed Parachute.  In a unique process, four longstanding injury prevention charities (SMARTRISK, ThinkFirst, Safe Kids Canada and Safe Communities Canada) amalgamated to form Parachute, a single entity with a vision of an injury-free Canada.

“I’m so pleased to have the support of the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation not only because it recognizes the value of investment in injury prevention, but also because it signals growing confidence in Parachute’s drive for a new approach,” commented Louise Logan, Parachute’s President & CEO.  “Preventable injury is the number one killer of Canadian children, and represents a $20B annual burden on Canada’s economy.  Parachute is about new thinking that will prevent injuries and save Canadian lives.  This grant will help us to make new connections and leverage technology to share life saving ideas.  It will strengthen our national network and help make injury prevention a priority for all Canadians.”

Consistent with Parachute's strategic plan, the grant will support the creation of a national framework for community mobilization and stakeholder engagement including identification and mapping of stakeholders, creating connections between communities, providing injury prevention solutions and evaluating results.  The grant is effective through January, 2016.
